A silent alarm went off, but was quickly quelled, in the Athens-based headquarters of the Bank of Greece. Three black-clad infiltrators broke into the facility in the dead of night, quickly deactivating the alarm and incapacitating the patrolling guards. Leaving one guardsman conscious, they were able to perfectly mimic his voice to fool police response on the phone into thinking the alarm was a glitch in the system. With no police coming, the intruders were free to continue with their mission, as they passed up pilfering the bank notes and currency for the computerized files in the central data storage. Mysteriously, one of them pulled a wired USB plug from beneath his sleeve,
, and inserted it into the main terminal to begin downloading whatever information the three came for. As the two remaining intruders began patrolling the surrounding area, one of them caught the sound of another being assailed by an unknown party and returned to see his downed ally; he is then struck unconscious by silenced, non-lethal ballistics. The third intruder noticed someone behind him and quickly turned to fire his weapon, but the bullet bounced off
gauntlet and she smacked it away as she dove at him to interrupt the remaining download. She tied him up with her lasso, she demanded to know what he was doing, and his answer was “This!”; he stabbed her in the leg with talons protruding from his fingertips, and she reacted by tearing off his cyborg arm. She lifted him into the air and slammed him onto the desk, but he activated his self-destruct device, which shorted him out and killed him before he could be interrogated further. Wonder Woman left the remaining two intruders bound and gagged for the police, whom she summoned by reactivating the silent alarm and left it. She then confiscated the augmented burglar's corpse and flew off with it in her stealth jet. Meanwhile, an ocean away, an LCD screen came to life to display a genetic scan in progress, along with a text from a corrupt officer stating he recovered the cybernetic arm that was left behind.
know to get ready...
At the home of Diana Creon
, the civilian identity of Wonder Woman, she lifted the body out of her transport and began to work. In a secret bunker beneath her home, replete with a hangar for the jet, Diana and her boyfriend Steve Trevor
examined the corpse of the infiltrator, digging through the cybernetic augmentations to his organic body. Retrieving the data core his subdermal USB terminal was connected to, Diana realized that none of the information that was stored in the Bank's terminals had been copied or stolen; in fact, it was a decoy program that only made it appear on screen as though it was being interfaced. Steve then found hidden syringes within the talon-like blades in the body's arm augmentations, and they lead into chambers that contain Diana's blood. The burglars were actually after her blood, but to what end? Before Diana and Steve could ruminate upon this, their luxurious home's security system went off! Two young women broke into the house and attacked the couple, and they also sported cybernetic augmentations. Despite their alterations, Diana almost-immediately recognized them as Priscilla Rich and Doris Zuel, two teenagers who had gone missing from the Ulang Archipelago
medical research facility; they, however, said they rejected those names and now, respectively, call themselves The Cheetah
. Now outfitted with enhancements that make up for their genetic disabilities, the girls overpowered WW (partially because she couldn't bring herself to use her full strength and risk hurting them) and kidnapped her and Steve.
Diana awoke several hours later, bound to a mechanical surgery table by force-multiplication braces. With no ability to move and stripped of her weapons and tools, Diana was at the mercy of black market cybernetics dealer Cassandra Colchis, alias “Circe”.
Wonder Woman had dismantled some of her operations in the past, but never confronted Circe face-to-face, and now the crime baroness has the upper hand. She had deduced WW's civilian identity and learned of the genetic mutation that gives her beyond-normal strength, so now Circe plans on harvesting her DNA for study and experimentation for her future augmentation lines. And if Diana ever breaks her bonds, they will trigger a toxic gas release in Steve's prison cell, killing him slowly and painfully. Circe returns to her office in this hide-away, leaving Salinger to begin “processing” Diana and having Cheetah join her. In the middle of the tense and torturous examination, Dr. Salinger saw something on the monitor, which Diana couldn't see, that caused her to print something off and stow it in a vanilla envelope. She tried to then undo Diana's binds, but Giganta (who was also in the examination room) saw what was going on and apprehended Salinger to bring to Circe for her sudden betrayal; with Dr. Salinger gone, another scientist named Dr. Edgar Cizko
(who had been observing from the other room) entered and stared deeply at a frightened Diana with hungry eyes...
Cylvia Salinger was brought to Circe's office, and Giganta informed her boss of what the doctor was doing. She asked for no reason behind it, instead asking who is with 'the subject' (“Cizko was lookin' at her from the observation room, so him?” Giganta said). Circe then took a vial of acid and splashed it in Cylvia's face, leaving her to stumble out of the office in tremendous, blinding pain while the mad woman laughed. But instead of dying, like Circe though would happen, Salinger dragged herself to the prison wing of the hideout and freed Steve. She then told him where to find Diana and her confiscated equipment. As a highly-trained soldier with the Air Force, Steve ghosted his way through the base to retrieve Diana's weapons and then choke out the deranged Cizko when he got to the lab. Now fully equipped, Wonder Woman and Steve fought their way through Circe's legion of animal-masked thugs to defeat her, along with Giganta and Circe.
The police arrived later, in force, to arrest the conspirators, along with ambulances to collect the injured, such as Salinger and the now-comatose Circe; operatives of the international R&D corporation Slate Technology And Research
were also there to collect the memory-wiped Cheetah and Giganta.
As the scarred Dr. Salinger was carted away, she frantically handed Diana the envelope, mumbling to read it in secrecy.
When she got the chance, Diana opened the envelope, and learned something truly and utterly horrifying...
* Absolute WW's biography: red-rum-18.deviantart.com/art/…
* Diana's home base is on the east coast of the Continental US, and her stealth jet can get her anywhere quickly in response to threats and crimes.
** Originally, she was set up in her ancestral nation of Greece to help with the 2008 riots, but they have since died down and order was restored.
** Circe's hidden base is also in the US.
* I had intended for black-market cyborg technology in this universe in the first place, but my recently playthrough of Deus Ex: Human Revolution has solidified that idea for me.
* The corrupt Athens police officer working for Circe was caught, too.
* Dr. Cylvia Salinger is based on Doctor Cyber.
** Her new last name is from
's version of Dr. Cyber.
** While Circe is the brains behind this operation, but Dr. Salinger is more intelligent than her when it comes to cyber-augmentations, though the lacks the qualities that make Circe the leader.
* Priscilla and Doris claim that Diana has abandoned all of the patients of the Ulang medical facility, but Diana has been making generous donations every month! Has someone there been embezzling those funds?
** Circe found the girls, who wanted to get back at Diana, and contacted them, revealing Diana's secret life as Wonder Woman to them and making them into the cyborgs Cheetah and Giganta.
*** The enhancements also make Priscilla and Doris look like adult women, but they're still teens.
*** Their cybernetics strained to the breaking point while fighting WW, Cheetah and Giganta's neural processors overloaded and they shut down. They are still alive, but with no memory of learning that Diana is Wonder Woman; all they have to go on is an unexplained hate for WW.
* There were no security cameras watching Steve's cell, because Circe's men said that if he tried to break out, it would also trigger the toxic gas.
* Dr. Cizko, a rapist, is now obsessed with Diana when she became, as far as he's concerned, “the one who got away.” He escaped the police and will return as Doctor Psycho.
* Slate Technology And Research is based on STAR Labs. It's founder and CEO is Garrison Slate.
* Yes, Diana is pregnant. That's what was causing her mysterious pains ever since: red-rum-18.deviantart.com/art/…
. Not only that... it's twins.
